Statement of condolences by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Iraq

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq expresses its condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the Russian Federation following the crash of the N-26 plane, which claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

We renew the solidarity and support of the government and people of the Republic of Iraq to the families of the victims in these difficult circumstances, and we express our heartfelt words of support to them.

President Salih hosts luncheon on honour of Egyptian President and Jordanian King: Iraqi, Egyptian and Jordanian cooperation is historical turning point towards prospects for peace and development in the region and in meeting the challenges presented

On Sunday, June 27, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih laid out an opulent state banquet welcome for Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah's visit to Baghdad and where the visit is a major support for Iraq and its people.
In addition to President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Halbouosi and the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Chief Justice Faiq Zidan also attended the opulent state banquet.



Foreign Minister Meets Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein and the accompanying delegation met٫ on 25 June 2021 with the Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, H.E. Mrs. María Reyes Maroto. H.E. presented a summary of the industrial and commercial reality, general economic situation in Iraq, current challenges within this framework, and ways to develop these various sectors through cooperation and exchanging experiences with friendly countries, including Spain.



Foreign Minister meets Spanish Foreign Minister in Madrid

On June 25th, 2021, the Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein and his accompanying delegation met with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Arancha González. During the meeting, joint views were exchanged on bilateral relations and the current situation in the region, as the Minister presented the most important preparations for holding the elections next October and current challenges in the region, commending the support of Spain and the EU to send observers during the upcoming elections.



Foreign Minister Meets the President of the Spanish Chamber of Deputies

H.E Foreign Minister, Mr. Fuad Hussein and his accompanying delegation met, on 25 June 2021 with the Speaker of the Spanish House of Representatives, H.E. Mrs. Meritxell Batet. During the meeting, the Minister presented a summary of the current situation in Iraq and the region and the challenges facing the Iraqi government, as well as the preparations for holding elections next October, stressing the importance of these elections for Iraq.



Foreign Minister Supports International Efforts to Restore Security and Stability in Libya

On 18 June 2021, Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Najla El-Mangoush, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and means of joint cooperation.
H.E. affirmed Iraq’s support for international efforts to restore security and stability in Libya, and to resort to political solution to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.



Foreign Minister Participates in the Opening of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum

On 18 June 2021, Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein participated in the opening of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, with the participation of a number of state leaders, heads of government, foreign ministers, and academics.
Mr. Hussien’s participation in this forum comes to reaffirm Iraq’s active presence in international fora, to express Iraq’s visions and stances towards regional and international issues of a political, security and economic nature.



Iraqi President: Yazidi Female Survivors Law Must Be Applied, Enhancing and Coordinating National and International Efforts to Detect Missing Persons Are Vital

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Braham Salih met with a number of Women survivors of Yazidi genocide who have been subjected to the most heinous violations and crimes of ISIS genocide. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
President Salih was briefed by the members of the visiting delegation about the issues that they face.



Iraqi Foreign Minister from Doha Calls Upon Neighboring Countries to Hold Dialogue in Baghdad to Solve All Issues of Concern to the Region

Foreign Minister. H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein met on 14 June 2021 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Sameh Shoukry, on the sidelines of his visit to Doha to participate in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers hosted by the State of Qatar.

Foreign Minister Calls on the League of Arab States to Send Observers to Monitor the Progress of the Upcoming Electoral Process

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein delivered the speech of the Republic of Iraq at the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers held on 15 June 2021 in Doha, in which he emphasized Iraqi government’s efforts to prepare for a meeting aiming at alleviating the situation in the region, which would positively effect the internal situaion in Iraq, with the participation of all neighboring countries, Arab and Islamic countries, in addition to the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the Arab Republic of Egypt.



Foreign Minister Congratulates his Emirati Counterpart on the Occasion of Electing UAE as a Non-Permanent Member of the UNSC

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, made a phone call to his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to congratulate him on the occasion of the election of the UAE as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period 2022-2023.



Foreign Minister Arrives in Doha to Attend Two Consultative and Emergency Meetings of Arab Foreign Ministers

On 14 June 2021, Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein arrived in Doha, to attend two consultative and emergency meetings of Arab foreign ministers.

It is worth noting that the meeting came upon the request of the host State of Qatar due to its presidency of the current session of the Arab League Council, and that the meeting will discuss various Arab issues, primarily the Palestinian cause and its recent developments, making peace frameworks in the Gaza Strip, and the developments of the Renaissance Dam issue.



Iraqi President Meets UK Foreign Secretary: International cooperation and collaboration needed to maintain regional peace and security, there should be further coordination in fight against terror, curbing corruption and confronting climate change

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
President Salih and UK Foreign Secretary Raab discussed Iraqi-British ties, and how best to promote these in all sectors, and where there could be implement the memorandum of understanding signed today between the two countries.



Iraqi President Meets US Ambassador, Matthew Tueller

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih met with US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace.
The close bilateral relations, and the mutual cooperation between Iraq and the USA across all the fields were discussed during the meeting. President Salih and the American Ambassador discussed how best to strengthen the prospects for further cooperation and where there could be further dialogue and functional commissions on strategic issues of common interest.



Iraqi President: High Standard of Scientific Level of Iraqi Universities Should Be Ensured, and Barriers Hindering University Professors and Students Should Be Overcome

On Monday, June 7, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
It is vital to ensure a high standard of scientific level of Iraqi universities and raise the academic education in Iraq, President Salih said, with focus on the need that the scientific independence of universities should be guaranteed.



Foreign Minister: We Discussed Prospects for Economic Cooperation and Investment Opportunities for Russian Companies Participating in Infrastructure and Reconstruction Projects

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein expressed his appreciation to the Government of Russia and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its supportive stance towards Iraq’s request from the Security Council to send observers to monitor the electoral process. The two sides stressed the importance of holding elections to build solid foundations for the democratic system in Iraq.
This came in a telephone conversation between Minister Fuad Hussein and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov.



Iraqi President Meets World Bank's Delegation: Iraq Heads Toward Achieving National Economic Reform, Promotion of Investment and Works to Support Private Sector and Curb Corruption

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the World Bank Group Vice President for Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Ferid Belhaj and alongside his delegation. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

In the aim of enhancing confidence in the electoral process, achieving wide participation in the elections, and ensuring integrity and organization, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2576, to renew the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), until May 27, 2022.
The resolution contains strong elements, adopted for the first time to send a UN team to monitor elections in Iraq.
