Foreign Minister Mourns the Victims of Terrorist Attack in Baghdad and Expresses Appreciation for Stances of Brotherly and Friendly Countries in Condemning Terrorism and Consoling Iraqi Government and People

Another crime is added to the record of terrorism, the one that claimed the lives of dozens of martyrs and injured many other Iraqi citizens.

We condemn the terrorist operation that took place in Baghdad today, Thursday January 21st and affirm that the Iraqi government will take all means to fight the remnants of terrorism, and is determined to continue to complete the war against its groups. We also express our thanks for the international solidarity with the Iraqi people on this sad day.

We pray for the souls of the martyrs whose lives were claimed to grant them mercy and forgiveness, and grant their families patience and solace and for the wounded to recover quickly.



President of Iraq Barham Salih congratulates President Joe Biden on his inauguration as President of the United States of America

Today, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, the President of the Republic, Dr. Barham Salih, congratulated US President Joe Biden on the occasion of his taking the constitutional oath and assuming his official duties.
President Salih expressed his aspiration to build upon the relationship between the two countries, saying that together Iraq and the USA faced many challenges and had a common interest in confronting these, - "especially those presented by terrorism and extremism," the President noted.

Iraqi President to Yazidi Iraqis on Their Annual Holiday: Efforts to Find Missing Yazidis Must Continue, While Displaced Persons Must Be Allowed to Return, to Enjoy Peace in their Homes

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, congratulated the Yazidi people on their annual ritual, the Three Day Fast of December. The meeting took place in Baghdad.
During this commemoration, President Salih also spoke again about the need to continue with domestic and international efforts to find out what had happened to the abducted Yazidi people who are still missing, as well as to continue the process of holding accountable those responsible for crimes against the Yazidi people.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received a phone call from Mr. François-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Foreign Minister, developments in Iraq and various aspects of bilateral relations were discussed in addition to means of cooperation in various fields.

Iraqi President meets Ambassadors from UN Security Council Permanent Members: Protecting Iraq’s Sovereignty and Supporting Iraqis’ Fight Against Terrorism were on the Agenda

On Monday, December 7, 2020, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, met the Baghdad-based ambassadors of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. These are China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. Also attending the meeting was Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein.



Foreign Minister Meets with his Saudi Counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and discussed the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Riyadh.
The two sides praised the growing development that was witnessed in the last period, and the ways to strengthen it further in light of the strong and serious will of both countries to strengthen the frameworks for cooperation.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein praised the historical Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations, and the steady progress they are witnessing, stating that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are the gates of Iraq to the Gulf, and called for the importance of creating a mechanism for joint action with the Gulf Cooperation Council in light of the presidency of the State of Kuwait, inviting Mr. Nayef Al-Hajraf to visit Baghdad within the framework of activating relations, and bridging ways of understanding between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.



Foreign Minister: The overlaps and intertwines that our world is witnessing today in terms of its international relations does not make any country safe and isolated from the challenges and problems that other countries face

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein called for preserving regional and international security, and achieving its requirements considering that the safety of states and the security of their peoples require great collective efforts in which states share responsibilities and obligations to obtain the atmosphere of peaceful coexistence and lasting stability.



The Foreign Minister Meets with US President’s Envoy to Syria

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the US President’s envoy to Syria Mr. Joel Rayburn. In the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis. The Minister expressed the Iraqi government’s interest in ending the ongoing conflict in Syria, resolving the issue of the displaced, and creating a safe environment for the return of the displaced to their areas of residence.



Foreign Minister Stresses the Need to Increase Volume of Banking Cooperation between Baghdad and Washington

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein stressed the importance of the joint relations that bind Iraq and the United States of America, and the need to develop them in various fields, especially the development of banking relations between the two sides, expressing his aspiration to benefit from the banking expertise of American banks.



Pope Francis to Visit Iraq Next March

It is with great pleasure for us to announce that His Holiness Pope Francis will visit Iraq from 5 to 8 March 2021.

The Pope’s visit to Iraq, Mesopotamia, the land of Messengers and Prophets, and the homeland of Ur and Prophet Abraham represents a historic event and is considered support for all Iraqis.
