The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, D.C welcomed a large number of the American public during the event of the Around the World Embassy Tour

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, D.C., this Saturday, May 7th, welcomed a large number of the American public from (9am-5pm) during the event of the Around the World Embassy Tour. The embassy staff and their families have been keen to introduce the Iraqi culture, and they wore the local costumes that were admired by the visitors, and they presented the local Iraqi foods they made themselves, such as kelejah, zarda, qeema and rice, lablabi, and balango, which won the approval of the visiting public.

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has received, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran affairs, Ms Jennifer Gavito, with the presence of the US Ambassador to Iraq, Mr Matthew Tueller, and the Director of National Security for Iraq and Syria, Ms Zahra Bell.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Fuad Hussain has discussed the developments of situations in the region, such as the security situation in the Gulf region and Yemen and the danger of escalation and deepening crises, Mr. Hussain confirmed that the stability of the region means the stability of Iraq, Therefore “we are ready to do our best and to work with the countries of the region to stop violence”. This was during a phone call received by Mr. Hussain from his Iranian counterpart Dr. Hussain Ameer Abdulhaian.



Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs meets head of the European Commission for the European Life Development

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Fuad Hussain met the Acting Head of the European Commission for the European Life Development Mr. Margaritis Schinas on Friday 18/2/2022 on the side lines of Munich Security Conference (session 58) held in Munich City/ Germany.

The two sides discussed the cooperation horizons between Iraq and EU on the file of refugee. Mr. Margaritis has commended Iraq`s efforts and its cooperation on this file.



Iraq Accepts Repatriation of Five Precious Antiquities by Manhattan District Attorney’s Office

NEW YORK (January 18, 2022)—Iraqi Ambassador to the United States Fareed Yasseen today accepted five historic stolen artifacts for repatriation to Iraq after they had been looted over the past 30 years.

At a ceremony also featuring Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Erik Rosenblatt, Acting Special Agent in Charge, New York, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, two items seized from Michael Steinhardt and three others from ongoing investigations were handed over. The Antiquities Trafficking Unit of the office of the Manhattan District Attorney was responsible for the efforts to recover the stolen antiquities, which collectively are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Iraq off the EU list of High- Risks Countries in the field of combating money laundering and financing of terrorism

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares the de-listing of Iraq from the European Union’s list of high- risks countries in the field of combating money laundering and financing of terrorism.

This came in a letter delivered by the European Commission mission on 9/1/2022 to the Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhemi, in which it congratulated Iraq on the great measures and efforts that have been taken to improve the anti-money laundering system and combat the financing of terrorism.

On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Fuad Hussein received the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the International Investigation Team for Accountability for the Crimes committed by the Terrorist Organization ISIS, Mr. Christian Richard.

During the meeting, they reviewed the tasks entrusted to the International Team to support local efforts to hold accountable the terrorist organization ISIS.

The Foreign Minister Meets the U.S. Special Envoy for Iranian Affairs in Abu Dhabi
