H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, participated on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, in a dialogue session organised by the Arab Gulf States Institute (AGSI), in Washington, D.C. The session was moderated by the Institute’s President, Ambassador Douglas Silliman, and attended by a number of officials, diplomats, researchers, and representatives of American and international institutions. The session addressed the experience of the current Iraqi Government in comparison with previous governments, as well as its priorities in managing domestic affairs and formulating foreign policy, in light of the Minister’s participation in government work under a number of Iraqi governments and the experience he has gained in managing political and diplomatic affairs. The session also featured a discussion of non-state actors and armed factions in Iraq, the challenges associated with the presence of armed groups outside the framework of state institutions, and the government’s efforts to address this issue and its implications for the performance of state institutions. The discussion also addressed the impact of this issue on the MoFA’ ability to implement a unified foreign policy that reflects the official positions of the Republic of Iraq.
The discussions further covered Iraq’s relations with its regional surroundings, particularly the Arab Gulf states, and prospects for strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation. They also addressed Iraq’s role in supporting dialogue processes, consolidating the foundations of security and stability, and expanding areas of cooperation and partnership at the regional and international levels.
This participation comes as part of Mr Fuad Hussein’s dialogues with think tanks, research centres, and institutions concerned with international affairs, aimed at presenting the orientations of Iraqi foreign policy, outlining Iraq’s perspectives on regional and international issues, and strengthening communication with political and academic circles in the US.
