H. E. Ambassador Nazar Al-Khirullah, met with Republican Senator from the state of West Virginia, Shelley Moore Capito, Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and member of the Appropriations Committee, as well as several other committees in the U.S. Senate.
During the meeting, the Ambassador reviewed the priorities of the Iraqi government, foremost among which are financial and economic reforms, building a sustainable economy, strengthening the rule of law, and enhancing Iraq’s relations with regional countries and its international partners. He stressed the importance of supporting the efforts of the new Iraqi government in a way that contributes to strengthening stability and advancing economic development.
The two sides also discussed prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the United States and exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest, in a manner that further strengthens bilateral relations between the two countries. The Ambassador emphasized that Iraq is an important partner in the fight against terrorism, noting the serious challenges facing the region amid current regional developments, which require greater coordination and cooperation.
For her part, Senator Shelley Moore Capito noted that Iraq is witnessing significant progress compared to her previous visits, expressing her hope that it will overcome the challenges of the current phase amid ongoing regional escalation, and reaffirming her desire to visit Iraq again in the near future.
