On February 15, 2014, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki toured Anbar Province, where he was joined by Iraq's top military and security leaders.
After meeting with local government officials, the Prime Minister announced a plan to rebuild the areas most damaged by the insurgency and to restore security to the region. Al-Maliki promised to continue to support local agencies throughout the reconstruction process and praised local security forces and officials for their bravery in fighting Al-Qaeda insurgents.
A number of local tribal leaders also promised their continued assistance in combating Al-Qaeda's influence in the region as well as aiding in the reconstruction efforts.
