On January 10, 2014, the United Nations Security Council offered its support to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki in his efforts to combat al-Qaeda in Iraq.
“The Security Council expresses its strong support for the continued efforts of the Iraqi government to help meet the security needs of the entire population of Iraq,” said the statement.
The council praised the efforts of the Iraqi government and security forces in their battle to regain control of key cities in the al-Anbar region of Iraq.
