THE PRESIDENT MOURNS THE IRAQI ARCHEOLOGIST LAMIA AL-GILANI

President Barham Salih on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, mourned the Iraqi Archeologist Dr. Lamia al-Gilani, who passed away at the age of 80, in Amman.
His Excellency lauded the prestigious status of the deceased and her distinguished efforts in the field of archeology.
The following is the full text:
"We have received with deep pain and grief the news about the death of archaeologist Dr. Lamia al-Gilani, one of the first Iraqi women, who excavated the rich archaeological heritage of the country, and she was an expert in Sumerian seals.
We have lost one of the creators who recorded their presence in the arenas of creativity and excellence and had a clear imprint in the record of culture and in the field of archeology and science.
The deceased had played a major role in the rehabilitation of the Iraqi Museum when it was stolen and looted, and urged the international community to recover stolen Iraqi antiquities.
May God have mercy upon her and rest in peace and for her family and acquaintances patience and solace.
