On Saturday, May 4, The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq will join more than 75 other nations for Passport D.C.'s Around the World Embassy Tour beginning at 10 a.m.
Passport DC commemorates International Cultural Awareness Month in the District of Columbia. The celebration runs May 1 through 31 and offers an outstanding array of cultural activities presented at embassy open houses, street festivals, performing arts venues, museums, and special receptions throughout the District.
“Passport DC offers authentic learning opportunities for the thousands of people who attend these events. It’s a global buffet of arts and culture,” according to Steve Shulman, executive director of Cultural Tourism DC. “Visitors will find a tremendous selection of music, dance, art, handcrafts, and even some very tasty samples to eat and drink,” he said.
This year marks the Seventh time that the Iraqi Embassy has participated in Passport DC.
The event will showcase historic icons of Iraq’s cultural heritage from Mesopotamia and Medieval Baghdad such as books and publications, fine arts and popular crafts, and traditional Iraqi costumes and cuisine.
