On February 23, 2014, His Excellency Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki visited Karbala Province where he laid the foundation stone for an oil refinery project with a production capacity of 140,000 barrels/day.
In his speech delivered in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani and the Ministers of Oil and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prime Minister Al-Maliki thanked the Ministry of Oil and the company executing the project, which is one of the strategic projects underway in Iraq.
The Prime Minister commended Korean companies for their proactive role of entering the investment market in Iraq. Additionally, Al-Maliki called for more companies to invest in other sectors that Iraq has to offer, not solely in oil.
The Prime Minister’s visit also included distributing 1,338 residential lands to the poor and disadvantaged in the province of Karbala.
