Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Baghdad to discuss the political and security situation in Iraq and US efforts to help curb the threat of ISIL.

His Excellency Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jafaari met with UNESCO's General Director, Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting discussed UNESCO's support for Iraq and stressed the need to rehabilitate ancient cities.

Ambassador Nazar Al Khirullah met with Denise Onsell and Aisling Kiernan, two representatives of the American Merck Health Services Company, which recently signed an MOU with the Iraqi Ministry of Health. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation in health domain and reduce medicines that do not stick to international standards and of unreliable origins.

The Ambassador looks forward to discussing Iraq’s victory in Tikrit and next steps in the fight against DAESH, as well as progresses made by his government ahead of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s first official visit to the United States.

The Kurdistan Regional Government with Rep. Blackburn and Rep. Van Hollen, hosted an event in Washington, DC to commemorate the Anfal campaign.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met with a delegation from General Dynamics, a major American manufacturer of weapons and military equipment, at his residence in Washington D.C. The meeting focused on cooperation with the company as part of the government`s efforts to rebuild Iraq`s military capabilities, specifically in providing tanks and armored vehicles.

Stuart, the CEO of Meridian International Centre at the Embassy’s headquarters on June 23; the two sides discussed the potential partnership between the Embassy & the Center with respect to diplomats’ capacity building programs; promoting cultural ties between both peoples of Iraq and US and managing energy programs.
